Güarianera is a progressive fusion project created by Sunfyre, a Costa Rican content creator known for her drumming livestreams and Andrés Castro, a Costa Rican professional guitarist endorsed by Abasi and Fishman. Both combine their experience as active touring musicians and music producers to create Güarianera. 

Güarianera exists to honor, preserve, and elevate the “entretejido” or cultural latinoamerican weaving of music and culture. The project goes beyond music by conducting on-the-ground cultural research such as interviewing local elders across Costa Rican towns to document their legends and anecdotes. By translating these authentic stories into music, Güarianera bridges ancestral heritage with modern soundscapes, keeping oral traditions alive for a global audience.

Güarianera crafts unexpected and compelling musical blends, weaving the heavy and technical tones of modern metal with the vibrant harmonies and rhythms of Latin American music. From incorporating traditional Costa Rican mascarada elements such as marimbas, street snares, and brass to pairing complex syncopations with heavy riffs, the project delivers an immersive sonic and visual storytelling experience.
